Ozark Mountain Miniatures
It has been 10 years since I switched from breeding Quarter Horses to breeding Miniature Horses. Like all newbies, I picked the little ones and had no idea how to determine what bloodlines cross with what bloodlines. Regardless of my success and knowledge of the Quarter Horse, it did not cross over to the miniatures.
I was fortunate to meet Murl Creel. He always had to come see what new show halters that we had for sale. I was quickly introduced to Larry Parnell and the rest is history. I have to admit it took a while for me to switch from my more quarter style minis to the double registered and when I saw D&S Ozark Mountains Top King for the first time, I thought "What have I bought?"
Of course, three years later I love him. (Larry Parnell is driving D&S Ozark Mountains Top King at the AMHR Nationals in photo at right.)
Along the way I have been lucky enough to buy several mares from Gold Mine, Talking Tree, Curry, Masters and Michigan lines. We now have 15 double registered mares and last year were lucky enough to have our own double registered foals. Our first colts went Reserve National Champion and third in Futurity at the 2009 AMHR Nationals. We are really looking forward to this year's foals. We will have our first Seth Thomas line foals next year.
In addition to the horses, we also own Ozark Mountain -- Minitack.com -- which keeps us
very busy. We have a complete line of miniature and pony tack. The double registered
are a new breed when it comes to fitting them for any type of tack. Having King here
has definitely been helpful.
